What do we teach?
The Veritas Grammar School will emphasize student exposure to and comprehension of core knowledge in literature, writing, grammar, vocabulary, history and geography, and fine arts.
The Veritas Grammar School curriculum incorporates methods developed by Charlotte Mason, including narration, memorization, picture study, and sketching. Weekly assignments will guide the student and parents in preparation for the next week’s class.
Students will be guided by an experienced educator through acomprehensive curriculum. Parents and students will be able to refer to the textbooks throughout the week to complete assignments and move broader and deeper into the material presented in class.
The academic program has been created to challenge students to think critically and grow in their knowledge of humanities through reading, projects, the study of Latin root-words and the integration of biblical truth in all subjects.
Elementary students attend class with peers in the same grade level under the supervision of an experienced educator.
In the Veritas Preparatory School all subjects are taught from a distinctively biblical world view.
The curriculum integrates Scripture, theology, apologetics, history, literature, composition, grammar, study skills, logic, and critical thinking.
Vocabulary development through Latin and Greek roots culminates in a formalized study of Latin and Greek as languages in high school.
Each week, the student will receive an assignment sheet delineating the work required in each subject area.
Students will participate in a combined grade level classroom that allows them to interact with peers and promotes classroom discussion and group projects.
The philosophy of education for Veritas is as follows:
Parental Duty
God has assigned parents the role of primary educators over their children (Ephesians 6:4, Deuteronomy 6). Therefore, we are partners with likeminded parents in the provision of a hybrid private/homeschoold education. We support and equip parents in the exercise of their God-given authority.
Universal Truth
God's existence and attributes are revealed not only in His word but also in His world (Romans 1:20). Therefore, we teach that there is both 1) a natural revelation of God and his moral law that is accessible to all mankind and 2) a special revelation of God which restates much of natural revelation and give mankind its only sufficient source of what we must know and believe to be saved.
Intellectual Virtue
We aim for intellectual excellence which we believe is a means by which we achieve religious and civic virtue. God wants us to love Him with all heart, soul, mind, and strength (Matthew 22:37). Therefore, we teach how to learn and reason within the context of our robust western and Christian intellectual tradition, emphasizing essential intellectual virtues that lead us to right belief and right practice.
